The T 314 between Reus and Cambrils up to Parc Samà is right now the road with the highest risk of traffic accident in Catalonia. The section leads the classification of the road risk map of the Tarragona regions and has led the Diputació de Tarragona to activate a package of measures to reduce accident rates on this road in Baix Camp.

The planned action involves renewing the horizontal and vertical signage, limiting the speed to 70 km/h, prohibiting overtakes, and reducing it to 30 km/h in two urban sections. Also, the containment barriers will be extended, a speed reducer will be installed at kilometer point 4+450, the lighting will be improved, and a new roundabout will be built.

A stretch marked by the accident rate of the 2022 2024 triennium

The position of the T 314 is explained by the accidents registered in recent years. In 2022 there were four accidents with four injured. In 2023 there was one accident with one seriously injured person. And in 2024 the road added an accident with two dead and two seriously injured, the most severe toll of the period analyzed.

In contrast, no accidents have been registered neither in 2025 nor so far in 2026. Even so, the behavior of the section during the 2022-2024 triennium places it as the one with the highest risk within the study prepared with data from that period.

The other roads with the most risk in Tarragona

After the T 314, other relevant black spots appear on the Tarragona road network. The map then places the TP 7225 between Reus and El Morell, the C 37 between Valls and El Pont d"Armentera, the N 240 between Falset and Reus and the N 340 between Torredembarra and the link with the C 32.

The data are part of the 22nd edition of the Risk Map of the road network of the Tarragona counties, prepared by the RACC and the Catalan Traffic Service based on the accident rate of the 2022-2024 triennium.

Serious accidents rise

Accidents with fatalities and serious injuries have increased by 11.5% compared to the 2021 2023 period. That rebound is especially concerning in a network where the weight of certain vehicles skyrockets the risk in some corridors.

"The risk of suffering a serious accident on a conventional road is four times greater than on a dual carriageway" - Josep Mateu, president of the RACC

"It would have been better if mobility had increased more than accident rates, but it hasn't been that way and it's a small piece of bad news" - Cristian Bardají, director of the Mobility area of RACC

Trucks and motorcycles worsen the impact of accident rates

On the AP 7, the stretch between Altafulla and Vilafranca presents a very high weight of heavy vehicles in accidents, with 62%. Between Cambrils and Tortosa that percentage is 43%.

Across the province, trucks represent 25.9% of total traffic but are involved in 41.7% of accidents. Motorcycles and mopeds also show a clear overrepresentation. They account for 4.4% of traffic in Tarragona, but appear in 35% of accidents with fatalities and serious injuries.

Territorial inequality of risk

The distribution of danger is not homogeneous. In Terra Alta, 64% of the sections present a high or very high risk. In Baix Ebre, that percentage stands at 40%.

The regions of Baix Camp, Tarragonès and Baix Penedès concentrate 80% of the sections with higher risk. The situation of the T 314 reinforces that map and anticipates new interventions on a very used road between Reus, Cambrils and the surroundings of Parc Samà, where the priority now is to reduce speed and better organize traffic to avoid new serious accidents.
