The joint venture formed by Cosco and PTP has presented its proposal to manage the multipurpose terminal of the Andalusia Wharf in the Port of Tarragona, within the tender opened by the Port Authority of Tarragona to choose the new operator of this infrastructure.

The offer places one of its main arguments in local employment, with at least 150 jobs starting in 2027 and a forecast of 180 workers in 2031, although the terminal will not reach full capacity until the end of 2028 after an estimated construction period of two years.

The proposal foresees 150 jobs from 2027 and 180 workers in 2031

The Port Authority of Tarragona has already evaluated the documentation included in envelope number two of the tender, in which the proposal submitted by the business alliance to operate the terminal at Moll d'Andalusia is analyzed.

The project proposes a template with specialized technical profiles and adds structured training plans along with equality and work-life balance policies. The Port of Tarragona maintains that the proposal seeks to promote stable and quality employment and that it prioritizes the hiring of local personnel.

In addition to the labor impact, the terminal has been designed to move a global capacity of 682,000 TEU. That volume will be distributed among spaces for containers, general cargo, vehicles, auxiliary facilities, and maneuvering areas.

The terminal will connect with La Boella and the Guadalajara-Marchamalo platform

One of the project's main focuses is intermodality. The future operation will take advantage of the La Boella railway terminal to link the Tarragona complex with logistics platforms such as Guadalajara-Marchamalo.

That railway connection is part of the plan with which Cosco and PTP aspire to manage the multipurpose terminal. The infrastructure will also incorporate STS gantry cranes, electrified machinery, and advanced digital systems for daily operations.

In the technological section, the proposal includes a semi-automated operating model with digital twins that Cosco Shipping Ports Limited has already tested. Full operation is scheduled for the end of 2028, once the two years of construction work are completed.
