La Paeria de Lleida has given green light to a new battery of urban management and services measures that combines more surveillance in l'Horta, changes in the future concession of the urban bus and new tools to address environmental problems in the city. Among the decisions that will go through the local government board is the installation of 37 surveillance points with license plate readers.

The package arrives with clear political tension in public transport. The local government has pushed forward the cost report for the new bus concession with the support of Junts, but the main reproach from the opposition focuses on the study setting an expense of 11.6 million euros per year without incorporating, according to Comú, an expansion of the service.

La Paeria will distribute 37 surveillance points between new equipment and reoriented cameras

The security project for l'Horta foresees 37 surveillance points with license plate readers. Of that total, 20 will be new installations, 12 will be reoriented in existing locations and five will be dedicated to environmental surveillance.

The initiative will be approved by the local government board after its passage through the City Management commission. The deployment is concentrated in l'Horta, one of the areas where the municipal government wants to reinforce access control and environmental supervision.

In addition to that plan, government and municipal groups agreed to process an ordinance to regulate pollution by bad odors. The proposal came from ERC and responds to repeated episodes affecting neighborhoods close to industrial estates, among them La Bordeta.

PSC and Junts endorse a cost of 11.6 million for the bus without closing the debate on the expansion

In the same commission, PSC and Junts approved the cost report for the new concession of the bus service. La Paeria had requested that study from five companies and the document places the estimated expense at 11.6 million euros annually for the future concession.

PP and Vox opted for abstention, while ERC and Comú voted against. The distribution of support leaves the government with room to advance in the processing, although without consensus on the final scope of the service.

Comú maintained that the cost study does not contemplate the expansion of the service and reproached the PSC for not providing the opposition groups with the complete reports. The criticism is directed both at the economic content of the file and at access to the documentation.

On the other hand, the commission also agreed to create a table for the eradication of asbestos. The new body is added to the future ordinance on bad odors, proposed after repeated episodes affecting areas close to industrial estates such as La Bordeta.
