The fixed radar on Marquès de Camps promenade, at the entrance to Salt, has registered a sharp increase in speeding tickets during 2025. In total, 18,022 vehicles were fined, which represents 52% more than the previous year. This device controls the stretch between the Viena and autopista roundabouts, where the maximum permitted speed is 50 kilometers per hour.

Variations in the number of sanctions and radar calibration

During the 2023-2024 period, the number of fines decreased by 16.6% and stood at 11,860 sanctions. Margarida Gallardo, councilor for Citizen Security of Salt, attributes this reduction to the calibration of the radar during several months of 2024, which would have limited its usual operation

"The radar was calibrating for a couple of months during 2024, which reduced the number of fines that year" - Margarida Gallardo, Salt City Council

More traffic and accidents on the main access

The council points out that the volume of vehicles on this access road has increased, especially as it is the entrance to Salt from the C-65 and the AP-7. Furthermore, it links this axis with a significant part of local accidents. Last year, nearly fifty accidents were recorded on this stretch, out of a total of just over 170 in the entire municipality. Most of these accidents did not cause injuries, although some resulted in minor injuries. In parallel, the City Council has extended the continuous line on the Marquès de Camps promenade to reduce scrapes between vehicles, especially heavy ones. Gallardo also points to factors such as the rapid bus works between Girona and Salt, which could have increased traffic in the area due to diversions and occasional alterations to usual mobility. Weather conditions, with frequent rain, would also have modified travel routines

Speed control on other roads and new measures

On the avenue of Peace, where the maximum speed is 40 kilometers per hour, barely any accidents have been detected according to the councilwoman. However, in 2023, when the radar was installed punctually on this road, 3,889 drivers were fined for exceeding the speed limitThe City Council plans to install a new radar on Alfons Moré avenue, in a school environment, with the aim of reinforcing speed control in sensitive points for road safety

"The idea is to reinforce speed control at sensitive points" - Margarida Gallardo, Salt City Council

Educational purpose and deterrent effectGallardo insists that the radar's main function is not to collect revenue, but to educate. **The fines are economic, but the effect sought is deterrent**. The council maintains that surveillance and sanctions aim to reduce accidents and encourage respect for speed limits on the busiest access roads in the municipality
