The urban buses of Girona closed the last year with 4,587,159 trips, 7.1% more than in the previous year and 50% above the 2015 record, when 3,057,457 uses were counted.
The increase was not uniform. While three lines of Transports Municipals del Gironès concentrated 71% of all journeys, the only route created a few years ago to connect the courts with Sant Daniel and Puig d'en Roca continued to grow and the L10 was the only one that lost users.
The L5, the L2 and the L1 gathered seven out of ten trips
The eight lines operated by TMG gained passengers during the year, with the exception of the L10, which dropped 3.7% and closed the year with 122,481 trips.
The bulk of the demand was once again concentrated on three routes. The L5 led the network with 1,222,600 uses, followed by the L2 with 1,067,593 and the L1 with 964,454.
Together they accounted for 71% of all TMG trips. In the comparison of the last decade, the L2 was the one that advanced the most among the main lines, with an increase of 85.7%.
The L11 also grew strongly, increasing by 62.5% in ten years, and the L7, which did so by 58.4% in the same period.
More recent is the case of the L12. The line, created in 2020 to link the courts with Sant Daniel and Puig d'en Roca, reached 27,251 trips after rising 26.4% in a single year.
The rapid bus boosted the L9 between Girona and Salt since November
The five interurban lines of Teisa are combined with the urban network and, in the corridor between Girona and Salt, the annual growth was driven by the L9. That line reached 438,930 trips, 61% more than the previous year.
The change coincided with the entry into service of the BRCAT on November 10. The new rapid bus began to run with a frequency of 15 minutes and incorporated a bus lane between the pont del Dimoni roundabout, in Girona, and plaça Mercè Rodoreda, in Salt.
Since then, the monthly evolution of the L9 accelerated. In November it registered 58,267 trips, 64.8% more year-on-year, and in December it reached 60,195, with an increase of 95.2%.
Already in January, the line reached 64,755 trips and doubled the demand of the same month, with a year-on-year growth of 103%.
The other two Teisa lines between Girona and Salt remained close to previous levels. The L3 closed the year with 1,841,299 trips, 0.3% less, while the L4 added 1,121,268, 0.9% more.
Together, Teisa's three lines totaled 3,401,497 uses during the year, representing an increase of 5.3% compared to the previous year.
