Waste management in Tarragona has been under Urbaser's operation for six months after replacing FCC. The change of concessionaire marks the beginning of a renovation that includes an investment of 26 million euros to update the fleet and facilities.
Technological renovation is delayed until summer
Municipal sources confirm that the first new vehicles will circulate between the end of May and the beginning of June. The complete transition to the new operational structure will not be ready until the end of 2026.
Sonia Orts, councilwoman responsible for Public Cleaning of the PSC, defends that the process meets the established deadlines. The councilwoman assures that the qualitative leap will come with the summer machinery and the completion of the underground containers.

The arrival of cutting-edge technology contrasts with the current reality of many streets. Javier Escribano, from the Associació de l'Hostaleria, criticizes the coexistence of hydrogen buses with obsolete garbage trucks.
Neighborhood associations detect persistent deficiencies
Alfonso López, president of the Federation of Neighbors of Tarragona (FAVT), observes that the initial impetus has been diluted. Josep Maria Bertran, representative of Vall de l'Arrabassada and Llevant, agrees that the relaxation is evident and the city is far from the ideal situation.
José Cosano, from the Unió de Sant Pere i Sant Pau, considers that the current collection is poor. Albert Franquès, president of the La Móra-Tamarit neighborhood association, laments the lack of information and the absence of the service in his area despite it being contracted.
Pol Virgili, from Ferran, demands high-pressure water cleaning in Llevant to eliminate bird droppings. This dirt generates bad odors and a negative image that regular sweeping does not resolve.
Manel Rovira, president of the Part Alta Neighborhood Association, acknowledges that the city is cleaner. Nevertheless, he demands greater vigilance over those who leave bags outside the dumpsters.
Joan Anton, from Som Part Alta in the Old Town, clarifies that it still takes time to feel like a clean city due to pigeons. Jacinto Moreno, from the Siglo XXI Federation, values the improvement but insists on the urgency of renewing current vehicles.
Raquel Pizarro, president of Via T, highlights modernization although she points out critical issues with overflowing containers. Christian Compte, from the Nightlife sector, celebrates the substantial improvement since November thanks to night work.
Carles Parés, from the Federació de Llevant, makes a positive assessment of the semester. The representative warns that some developments remain abandoned.
