46% of the 700 applicants from Girona who took the Personal Aptitude Test on April 11 did not pass it, a mandatory requirement to access the degrees of Early Childhood Education and Primary Education. The data places the Girona demarcation among those with the worst results in Catalonia.

Specifically, 54.4% of the candidates from Girona obtained a passing grade, making the province the second with the lowest percentage of successful candidates. Only Barcelona was behind, with 53.5% passing. In Lleida the percentage was 55.8% and in Tarragona it reached 57.6%.

Results worsen in the Catalonia set

In all of Catalonia, 45.5% of the applicants failed the test. The figure worsens last year's records, when 42% of the candidates received a failing grade.

Girona had already stood out in the last call for its poor results. Last year it was the province with the worst prepared students to access Teaching, with 56% passing the exam. In 2024, moreover, the demarcation fell below the barrier of 50% of those who passed. In the previous academic year, the Girona regions had remained at 51% passing.

Differences by access route

The test also reflects a clear difference according to the academic background of the applicants. 57.8% of students coming from High School passed the PAP, while among students coming from higher vocational training cycles, only 34% achieved it.

The PAP evaluates two areas. On the one hand, communicative competence and critical reasoning. On the other, logical-mathematical competence. The final grade is expressed solely as pass or fail, and once obtained, it has indefinite validity.

Upcoming dates for applicants

Those who have not passed the test will be able to retake it in the extraordinary call on July 17. Students who have passed it must now complete the access process with the University Access Tests, scheduled for June 9, 10, and 11 in the ordinary call and for September 2, 3, and 4 in the extraordinary one.

"It is a key tool to guarantee a quality education" - Department of Research and Universities

The educational administration considers this test a key tool to ensure that future teachers begin their university studies with the necessary skills to face their training with guarantees.
