The AP-7 highway has had ten mobile speed cameras in operation since this Thursday along its 344 kilometers, between La Jonquera and Ulldecona. Six new devices are added to the four already existing, with the aim of reinforcing speed control on the entire road
Reinforcement of speed control on the AP-7
The new mobile radars will be installed at strategic points and their location will change every one or two months. The Catalan Traffic Service has confirmed that the decision on where they will be placed each week will be made in coordination with the Mossos d"Esquadra. The stretch between Papiol and Parets del Vallès, where the limit is 100 kilometers per hour, will be one of the points under specific surveillance.
"The current limit between El Papiol and Parets del Vallès is 100 kilometers per hour. If we place the cart, we can control its compliance" - Ramon Lamiel, Servei Català de Trànsit
According to Trànsit data, during the first days of the radars' operation, an average of 5% of the vehicles fined exceeded the speed limit. Two weeks later, the figure dropped to 2%
Balance of sanctions and vehicles controlled
During 2025, with the first four radars, 11 million vehicles were controlled and 585,000 sanctions were processed. The Minister of the Interior, Núria Parlon, has highlighted the importance of the new devices to ensure compliance with speed limits on the entire highway.
"This Thursday, the six new mobile radars have already been deployed, which will allow us to ensure compliance with speed limits and control the 344 kilometers of highway" - Núria Parlon, Minister of the Interior
Reinforced controls on trucks and inspection points
The increase in truck traffic since the end of tolls has motivated an increase in surveillance of freight transport vehicles. Macro-controls on trucks will be expanded with greater intensity and at any time of day, checking that drivers respect the driving and rest times established by regulations.
The inspections are carried out at points such as the old toll booth of Martorell or that of La Roca, where there is enough space to stop heavy vehicles. Núria Parlon has underlined the need for exhaustive surveillance of trucks, as they are responsible for a significant portion of accidents and traffic jams on the AP-7
"They will be placed in the most sensitive points, where there is more accident rate" - Ramon Lamiel, Servei Català de Trànsit
The control strategy seeks to reduce accidents and improve traffic flow on one of Catalonia's main road arteries
