The GIV 6703 road, which connects Girona and Quart with the sanctuary of Los Ángeles, registers more bicycles than cars and consolidates an upward trend in cyclist use in the last two years. The traffic count data place this road as an axis with a predominance of bicycle journeys compared to motorized vehicle displacements.

In the last two-year period, the GIV 6703 has recorded an average of 250 daily bicycle trips, 64%, compared to 141 by car, 36%. The accumulated volume is around 286,200 displacements, of which 183,100 correspond to bicycles and 103,000 to cars.

The weight of the bicycle increases on the climb to Los Ángeles

The proportion of cycling trips on this road has gone from 54% in 2023 to 64% currently. The increase is also seen in the recent evolution of daily traffic counts.

In 2024, the GIV 6703 registered an average of 247 bicycles per day, 63%, and 145 cars, 37%. In 2025, the figure rose to 254 daily bicycles, 65%, while cars dropped to 137 per day, 35%.

Traffic monitoring is carried out by means of two fixed flow meters with double counter installed by the Diputació de Girona. These devices allow to differentiate the passage of cyclists and motorized vehicles. The counters are located halfway along the route between the Bicentury factory and the sanctuary of Los Ángeles, within the municipal district of Girona.

Petition for restrictions to motorized traffic

In parallel to this increase in cycling use, groups of bicycle users have requested the closure of the road to motor traffic on certain days of the year. This is a decision that corresponds to Trànsit de la Generalitat.

The GI 532 maintains majority of cars

The comparison with another road in the surroundings shows a different scenario. On the GI 532, which links the GI 531 in Sant Martí de Llémena with the N 141 in Bonmatí, the combined average of 2024 and 2025 was 86 daily bicycles, a 34%, and 166 cars, a 66%.

For years, in 2024 this road registered an average of 88 bicycles per day, 35%, and 161 cars, 65%. In 2025 it went to 84 bicycles, 33%, and 171 cars, 67%. The difference with the GIV 6703 confirms that the access road to Los Ángeles concentrates a clearly superior cycling weight, especially in the controlled section within the municipality of Girona.
