Adif Alta Velocitat has awarded the urbanization works of Plaça Espanya for a value of 2.96 million euros. This investment marks the definitive closure of the transfer of railway land to municipal ownership in Girona.

The city recovers eleven thousand square meters

The performance covers an area of over 11,000 square meters. The project integrates land that remained occupied during the construction of the Madrid-Barcelona-French border high-speed line. The intervention directly affects the land located in Espanya and Poeta Marquina squares, as well as adjacent municipal areas.

The recovered space exceeds eleven thousand square meters of urban surface.

The central objective is to transform an area degraded by temporary infrastructures and the old bus station. The final design configures a nexus of pedestrian interconnection. This new axis will link existing transport services with the green areas of Plaça Europa. The integration seeks to eliminate the physical barriers created during the decades of railway works execution.

Pere Parramon highlights the Executive's political will

Pere Parramon, deputy government delegate in Girona, has defined the agreement as a historic milestone. For the state representative, this outcome is the result of institutional work sustained over years. Parramon has linked the resolution of the territorial conflict with the central Executive's investment strategy in the demarcation.

"We are facing the solution of a case that is a reflection of the political will of the Government of Pedro Sánchez" - Pere Parramon, deputy delegate of the Government in Girona

The subdelegate has insisted that the current Subdelegation represents the executive that has allocated the most resources to Girona. This statement contextualizes the award within a broader political roadmap that prioritizes territorial connection and urban regeneration in the province.

The technical works contemplate a comprehensive rearrangement of the roadway. The budgetary items include the complete renovation of sidewalks and pavements. Public mobility will be modified with the relocation of the bus stop to an optimized location. The urban landscape will incorporate new plant species to increase the tree mass of the area.

The provision of services will be expanded with the installation of new urban furniture and efficient lighting systems. The sustainable mobility network will receive a concrete boost with the incorporation of a point from the municipal bicycle service Girocleta. These improvements seek to homogenize the environment with the rest of the surrounding urban fabric.

The figure of 2.96 million euros reflects the total cost of the tender approved by Adif Alta Velocitat. This amount ensures the material execution of all items described in the technical specifications. The railway administration thus culminates its responsibility in the transfer of these public spaces to the city.
