The Fontané restaurant, located in the fortress of Sant Julià de Ramis, has been recognized as the best opening of the year 2025 in Spain by the Macarfi Guide. The announcement has taken place during the presentation of the 2026 edition of the guide, held this week in Madrid.

National recognition for the project of the Roca brothers

Fontané is the latest project of the Roca brothers and is located on the same premises as the hotel and restaurant Esperit Roca, which has a Michelin star. The establishment opened its doors last spring and pays homage to Montserrat Fontané, mother of the Rocas. The Macarfi Guide has placed Fontané ahead of Itzuli from San Sebastián and Ancestral from Pozuelo de Alarcón, both with a Michelin star, in the best opening category.

Outstanding presence of Girona in the Catalan ranking

Five restaurants in the province of Girona are among the twenty best in Catalonia, according to the Macarfi Guide 2026. Ca l'Enric occupies fifth place, Les Cols tenth, Miramar eleventh, Els Tinars fifteenth and Bo.TiC twentieth. The ranking is led by Cocina Hermanos Torres from Barcelona. For its part, El Celler de Can Roca from Girona appears in a separate category called Top of the Tops.

Expansion of the Macarfi Guide and methodology

The Macarfi Guide was born in October 2015 as a project focused on Barcelona. In 2024 it has expanded its coverage to all of peninsular Spain, going from 8 to 15 autonomous communities, among them Cataluña, Madrid, Euskadi, La Rioja, Comunidad Valenciana, Andalucía, Cantabria, Principado de Asturias, Galicia, Aragón, Navarra, Región de Murcia and Castilla. The next step will be to incorporate the islands in 2027 to complete national coverage.

The guide analyzes and scores nearly 5,000 restaurants based on the reviews of more than 2,000 local gastronomes, called ambassadors. All reviews about the same establishment are integrated into a single final review which, according to the publication's officials, offers a global, objective, and contrasted vision of each restaurant.
