Chinese brands already represent 10.3% of new cars sold in the province of Girona at the beginning of 2026, after closing a first quarter on the rise well above the market as a whole. Between January and March, they registered 379 vehicles in the demarcation, compared to 245 in the same period last year, which represents a growth of 54.7%.

The evolution contrasts with that of the Gerundense market as a whole, which in that same period advances by 15%. The increase in share confirms the consolidation of these brands in the dealerships of the province and their growing weight in registrations.

BYD leads the drive among Chinese brands

BYD is the brand that most pushes this growth in Girona. In the first quarter, it has gone from 42 to 117 registrations, with an increase of 178.6%. Also standing out are Omoda, which rises from 35 to 78 vehicles and grows 122.9%, and Jaecoo, which goes from 24 to 38 units, 58.3% more.

MG, however, retreats in the province. It goes from 137 to 104 registrations in the first three months of the year, a decrease of 24.1%, although it continues to be one of the Chinese brands with the most presence in the Girona market.

In the general classification by brands, leadership continues in the hands of traditional manufacturers. Toyota leads the Girona market in the first quarter with 390 registrations, followed by Hyundai with 328 and Dacia with 304.

Even so, the irruption of Chinese firms is already noticeable in the table. BYD ranks as the thirteenth brand with the most sales in the province, MG appears right behind and Omoda enters among the top fifteen.

An advance that had already accelerated during 2025

The trend came from before. In 2025, Chinese brands registered 1,297 new vehicles in the province of Girona, double that of 2024, when 644 were registered. The relative growth was 101.4%, well above the 12.5% that the Gerundense market advanced as a whole.

That exercise, MG led among Chinese brands with 594 registrations and an increase of 36.2%. BYD closed the year with 313 units and a rise of 226%. Omoda added 174 registrations, 95.5% more, while Jaecoo reached 158 after multiplying its registrations from the previous year almost by eight, with an increase of 731.6%.

In the total balance of 2025, Hyundai was the brand with the most registrations in Girona with 1,639 vehicles, a 5.8% increase. Behind were Toyota, with 1,394 and a 0.9% drop, and Dacia, with 1,177 after growing 21.2%.

The commercial network gains weight in the territory

"The advertising that is being done is very positive" - Oriol Fortuny, head of the BYD Quadis dealership store in Fornells de la Selva

Fortuny adds that the drag effect of the users themselves is also having an impact on sales.

"People who own a BYD comment about it to many people and more and more are seen" - Oriol Fortuny, head of the store of the BYD Quadis dealership of Fornells de la Selva

From the dealership, they also point out that the initial barrier has been reducing when the customer can see and test the vehicle and evaluate firsthand the finishes, the equipment, and the performance.

The expansion of these brands is also supported by an increasingly wide commercial network throughout the State. Raúl Morales, communication director of Faconauto, points out that there are already more than 600 dealerships that distribute Chinese brands in Spain.

"Its capillarity, its roots in the territory, its professionalism and its capacity to invest" - Raúl Morales, communications director of Faconauto

Morales also considers that the journey of these brands has not yet been exhausted and maintains that brands continue to arrive with the will to settle in the market and maintain rapid growth. He also assures that the buyer who considers changing cars no longer shows reluctance to value the purchase of a Chinese vehicle, in a context in which Girona is consolidating itself as one of the territories where that advance is most visible.
