The UGT Public Services Education Sector presented a report on January 29, 2026, revealing the widespread use of Artificial Intelligence in educational centers in Catalonia and the rest of the country. The study, conducted between November 2025 and January 2026, gathered the opinions of 1,376 teachers and shows a massive implementation of these tools in the daily work of educators.

Privacy and Security Concerns in Classrooms

According to the results, almost 90% of the teaching staff already uses AI tools in their pedagogical work. 71.6% use these systems mainly for planning and creating materials, while 84% state that AI generates more work on a daily basis. The survey detects concern among teachers: 48.5% express concern about the privacy and security of personal information for both students and teaching staff.

UGT warns that the implementation of AI in educational centers must respect the European Union's Artificial Intelligence Act and the Organic Law on Personal Data Protection and Guarantee of Digital Rights. The union demands that the Administrations comply with their legal duty to conduct privacy impact assessments before deploying any algorithm in classrooms.

"We demand that the Administrations fulfill their legal duty to conduct privacy impact assessments before deploying any algorithm in classrooms, ensuring that no technological tool violates educational ethics or the data protection of the school community" - UGT Report

Faculty demand regulation and legal protection

71.5% of the professionals surveyed demand clear regulation that sets limits on the commercial interests of big tech in education. UGT denounces that teachers are taking on technical verification tasks that detract from direct pedagogical work. 91.8% of teachers believe that AI hinders the acquisition of key competencies and puts student learning at risk.

The report also reveals that 86.7% fear plagiarism and 83.6% a reduction in analytical capacity due to the use of these technologies. UGT calls on educational administrations and the Ministry of Education for the utmost speed in opening collective bargaining tables to address this situation.

"AI is not a future hypothesis, but a tool that is already operating in classrooms without a regulatory framework to protect teachers and students" - UGT

Claiming Resources and Improving Working Conditions

UGT emphasizes that educational administrations must respond with resources and legal protection, in addition to reinforcing the human aspect of education. The union advocates for improving teachers' working conditions as a way to guarantee educational quality in an increasingly digitized environment.
