The Terrassa City Council has awarded Bigantec Consultoria, SL the drafting of the executive project for the new Italy bridge and the rehabilitation of the France bridge. The total amount of the contract amounts to 56,257.49 euros including VAT. The company will have twelve months to complete the technical tasks. This assignment arises after the previous project from 2012 became obsolete due to regulatory changes and the accelerated structural degradation detected in 2024.
Economic and technical breakdown
The contract is divided into two lots differentiated by their specific functions. Lot one, intended to define the structure of the Italy bridge, has a price of 33,754.49 euros.
The second lot establishes the actions for the France bridge with a final cost of 22,503 euros. The selection of Bigantec Consultoria responded to its most competitive offer and compliance with strict ecological criteria.
The municipal technicians ruled out one of the three offers received for considering it abnormally low. The winning company has engineers specialized in large-span bridges and will assign a technician with environmental training exceeding 50 hours.
Urbanistic and environmental interventions
The new design will include the construction of the structure over the Arenes stream and the urbanization of the platform. It is planned to adapt the traffic lights on Avinguda del Vallès to convert it into one-way streets and improve traffic flow. In the case of the França bridge, a structural rehabilitation and an expansion of the deck by at least 3 meters will be carried out. This intervention will add 1.5 meters on each side to ensure a safe accessible passage for vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians.
"The design must include a study to assess at least 70% of construction waste to promote the circular economy."
It will be mandatory to coordinate with the Catalan Water Agency due to the direct impact on the course. The studies will also evaluate the introduction of shade elements and vegetation in the new urban platforms.
Social impact and financing
The works respond to a historic demand from the Can Parellada neighborhood to reduce the barrier effect between streets. The main objective is to facilitate an urban continuum that improves local connectivity and overcomes the age of current facilities. This plan was part of the expected actions through a specific municipal program. However, it was not selected in the last call for aid from the Generalitat de Catalunya for budgetary reasons. The council has expressed its intention to apply for new official calls to ensure the necessary financing. The current priority focuses on the technical viability of the project before initiating any physical action on the ground.
