The publishing company of El Tot L'Hospitalet-Baix Llobregat has reported a continued cyberattack to the Mossos d'Esquadra police station in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat that affects the digital newspaper's edition since March 25.
The attack has not compromised internal data nor has it prevented the reading of news, but it is hindering the daily work of the newsroom. The paradox is that the outlet continues to publish normally for the reader while the internal system suffers blockages and slowdowns that increase the time and cost of each edition.
The attack saturates the server since March 25
The complaint describes a denial of service, known as DDoS, based on the sending of artificial traffic to saturate the server. That volume of requests prevents the editing of information from being done fluently.
In addition to El Tot L'Hospitalet-Baix Llobregat, the attack has also affected the edition of Tot Cornellà. The incident, therefore, affects two mastheads of the same group in Baix Llobregat and l'Hospitalet.
During this period, the system has not been accessed nor have internal company data been compromised. The problem is concentrated in the publication operations and not in an intrusion on the content or stored information.
Technicians have maintained daily publication despite blockages
Reading the news and accessing social networks continue normally. The impact appears in the internal work circuit, where server blockages slow down the loading, review, and editing of texts.
That irregular functioning forces to dedicate more time and more resources to tasks that are usually resolved quickly. The practical effect is an increase in the cost of the daily process of informative production.
While the attack lasted, the intervention of the technicians has made it possible to maintain the daily publication of news. IndianWebs, based in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, and CDMON have worked on this response.
The company filed the complaint after verifying that the attack, which began on March 25, continued to affect the edition of El Tot L'Hospitalet-Baix Llobregat and Tot Cornellà despite the technical measures adopted to sustain the service.
