Mas of Barberans, Molló and Pratdip denounce frequent power outages again one year after the great electrical blackout in Catalonia.

The paradox is that the episode that was supposed to reinforce the network has left several rural municipalities in a fragile situation, with prolonged failures and also problems with telephony and internet.

More from Barberans continues with a single obsolete airline

In Mas de Barberans, the mayor Daniela Lleixà laments that the town depends on a single overhead power line, with deteriorated poles that give way easily when strong winds blow.

"We have already lost count" - Daniela Lleixà, mayor of Mas de Barberans

The mayor adds that some power, telephone, and internet outages exceed twelve hours and that the city council is requesting a second connection from Roquetes, pending administrative procedures and expropriations.

Lleixà also rejects the electric company's explanation about the bad weather and summarizes the problem in the state of the network.

"It has always been windy here. The problem is that the network is not in good condition" - Daniela Lleixà, mayor of Mas de Barberans

The municipality demands urgent investments from the Generalitat de Catalunya and E-Distribución to modernize infrastructures that they consider insufficient.

The mayor of Molló, Josep Coma, explains that the major blackout was experienced with a certain normality because the municipality already suffers from electrical and telecommunications interruptions.

In March, strong gusts of wind left Molló cut off for more than a day and several residents could not contact 112.

"The feeling now is one of vulnerability" - Josep Coma, mayor of Molló

Coma fears that the lack of basic services will affect the population and the tourist appeal of the Vall de Camprodon, where the continuity of the supply remains a recurring demand.

Pratdip fears being isolated if the light fails within PENTA

In Pratdip, Sílvia Carrillo warns that a supply cut leaves the municipality practically isolated, without telephone coverage or reliable communication systems.

"If there is a medical or nuclear emergency and the power goes out, we have to take the car and travel several kilometers to find mobile coverage" - Sílvia Carrillo, mayor of Pratdip

The municipality is within the area of influence of the Tarragona Nuclear Emergency Plan, the PENTA, due to its proximity to the Vandellòs II power plant.

The affected town councils maintain that so far they have only received meetings, commitments, and good words, without visible structural actions.

E-Distribución denies that there are serious widespread problems and attributes the most important incidents to the storms and damage recorded between the end of 2025 and the beginning of this year.

The company assures that it continues to execute the investment plan agreed upon and supervised by the Generalitat de Catalunya while rural municipalities demand a stable electricity supply on equal terms with large cities.
