The Reus Housing Union has denounced the eviction planned for next May 14 of Jennifer Grima from a municipal dwelling located on passeig Mata. The entity warns that the local administration maintains the procedure without offering any stable housing alternative despite the extreme vulnerability of the affected person.
Grima has a recognized disability and is undergoing mental health treatment. Furthermore, she is an accredited victim of gender-based violence. The union assures that no specific protection protocol was activated, even though the woman authorized her situation to be communicated to the network of care resources.
Administration denies existence of contract
The Reus City Council states that the woman is in an irregular situation in a property owned by the municipality. The council denies that there has been a rental contract or associated payments by the occupant.
Municipal sources assure that various housing alternatives have been considered. They add that work continues to find an adequate solution to the case.
A previous eviction attempt that occurred on January 28 was suspended. Social pressure and a legal moratorium in effect at the time prevented the eviction. Now the process resumes without those temporary barriers.
"The protection order is no longer in force" - Justification transferred to the affected party according to the union
This is the explanation that the entity says it received to maintain the eviction. The report from the municipal Social Services describes the situation experienced by the woman. However, the document does not tick the box for sexist or intrafamily violence in the Residential Exclusion Risk Report (IRER).
Administrative blockage in access to aid
The woman has not been able to access the Emergency Board nor social housing. The public ownership of the current dwelling prevents these avenues of aid. She was also unable to enter the processes for accessing protected housing.
The minimum income requirements demanded excluded Grima from those lists. The affected person herself reports having suffered repeated supply cuts. These blackouts occurred despite her recognized vulnerability.
The union demands the immediate suspension of the eviction. It claims a social rent adjusted to her income or a stable and dignified residential alternative for the user.
