The works to board up the plot on Raseta de Sales street, in Reus, have entered their final phase after the City Council required the owner to close the premises to prevent access to the interior.
The closure comes after months of neighborhood complaints about a situation that combined insecurity and unhealthiness in the middle of the street. Episodes of noise, arguments, and fights were added to the accumulation of waste, the presence of rodents, and several uncivil behaviors in the surroundings.
Saturday's fire accelerated the closure of the premises
Last Saturday, moreover, a fire inside the plot forced the mobilization of six units of the Bombers de la Generalitat and several patrols of the Guàrdia Urbana.
The flames mainly affected accumulated debris inside the space and the exterior insulation of an adjacent building. The fire left no injuries, but reinforced residents' concern about the state of the plot.
The owner executes the boarding up by municipal order
The works are being carried out by the owner of the land in compliance with the order issued by the City Council. The action seeks to prevent new occupations and definitively close access to a premises that had concentrated incidents in recent months.
