The Mossos d'Esquadra arrested this week in La Pineda, in Vila seca, the driver of a line bus who was driving towards Tarragona with six passengers on board after he tested positive in an alcohol test. The intervention occurred last Friday towards 19.45 hours at a stop located in front of a campsite.
Stopped at a traffic stop
The vehicle was intercepted at a police checkpoint activated by the Servei Català de Trànsit to monitor passive safety elements, including the use of the seat belt. During the inspection, the officers observed that the driver was not wearing the seat belt.
The mossos also noticed that his way of speaking raised suspicions of a possible alcohol intake. Given these indications, the driver was subjected to the breathalyzer test at the same checkpoint.
A result five times above the professional limit
The test yielded a result of 0.81 milligrams of alcohol per liter of exhaled air. In the case of professional drivers, that rate quintuples the permitted limit, set at 0.15 mg/l.
For these events, the man was arrested for two serious infractions and for the risk that, allegedly, he posed to the passengers. He was accused of a crime against road safety.
The route continued with a relay
After the arrest, the company that manages the line mobilized a substitute driver to complete the journey. In this way, the six passengers who were traveling on the bus were able to continue to their respective destinations in the direction of Tarragona.
The operation is part of the preventive traffic controls deployed to reinforce road safety, also in passenger transport, where the legal requirement for professionals is stricter due to the responsibility they assume behind the wheel.
