The Urban Guard arrested early Tuesday morning a 34-year-old security guard at the CUAP of Prat de la Riba in Lleida, after an incident reported in the center's reception area. The arrest occurred around 1:00 AM at this healthcare facility, located opposite the Local Police station.
The man is allegedly charged with crimes of threats, disobedience and resistance to law enforcement officers. The police action was triggered after an administrative assistant reported having been threatened and intimidated on several occasions by the security guard, even with the baton.
Complaint in the reception area
The worker's complaint places the events in the reception area of the CUAP of Prat de la Riba. The employee stated that the guard had intimidated her on repeated occasions. Among those episodes, she reported threats with the baton, which motivated the intervention of the Guardia Urbana.
The arrested man was investigated for his alleged actions during the incident and also for the response he would have maintained before the agents when these intervened in the health center.
Aggressions in the healthcare field
The case once again puts the focus on the violence suffered by professionals in care settings. The Organización Médica Colegial de España registered 879 verbal and physical aggressions last year. In Catalunya, 281 were counted, and in Lleida, two verbal aggressions are recorded.
"We are convinced that aggressions are underreported, it gives the impression that with only two complaints from 2,000 members we have them normalized, and it should not be like that" - Maria Chiné, vice-president of the College of Physicians of Lleida
The reflection of the representative of the professional college points to a possible underreporting of this type of episodes in the demarcation. The arrest practiced in the CUAP of Prat de la Riba again places this problematic in the foreground in a health service of the city of Lleida.
