The Ciutat Jardí neighborhood association in Lleida faces its possible dissolution if a new president does not appear before the 21st of this month. Ramir Bonet has confirmed his definitive departure after leading the entity since 2020 and warns that his team will resign en bloc if there is no replacement.
The deadline to submit candidates closes on the day of the general assembly. This date marks the limit to prevent the lack of volunteers from causing the closure of an organization refounded between 2018 and 2019 after a neighborhood conflict.
The risk of dissolution due to lack of candidates
Bonet assumed the position as there were no other candidates five years ago. Since then, he has tried to leave the presidency in 2023, 2024, and 2025 without success. The absence of a successor has been constant despite his annual warnings.
"I have been in charge of the association since the beginning of 2020 and I took on the position because there was no candidate, every year I announce that I want to leave, but until now there has been no one who has offered to replace me, but now I have already announced that I will leave, yes or yes" - Ramir Bonet, president of the Ciutat Jardí neighborhood association
The current situation differs from previous attempts. The president received the news that his entire management team will resign if he leaves the presidency. This joint decision eliminates the possibility of a temporary internal transition.
The disappearance of the current board would leave the entity without governing bodies. Only a complete alternative list could save the associative structure. Otherwise, the organization will disappear de facto due to legal impossibility of functioning.
Pending lawsuits with the Paeria
The entity maintains pressure on the Lleida city council to obtain basic facilities. The neighborhood claims a day center and a nursery school as medium or long-term priorities. These demands remain unresolved despite the efforts made.
"They are necessary facilities that we must unblock once and for all" - Ramir Bonet, president of the Ciutat Jardí neighborhood association
Bonet offers his total support to any neighbor willing to run. He assures that he will help in everything necessary to facilitate the transfer of responsibilities. His objective is to guarantee the continuity of the work carried out in recent years.
This problem of generational relay affects other local entities. The association of Els Mangraners managed to find young candidates at the last minute last year. That case avoided its imminent closure thanks to the final mobilization of new residents.
"Obviously, we don't want that to happen, but we've been warning about this risk for some time and, if someone wanted to step forward, I would help them with whatever was necessary, but it's necessary to pass the baton" - Ramir Bonet, president of the Ciutat Jardí neighborhood association
The leader insists on the need to incorporate new blood into the leadership. He considers that it would be a shame to lose the trajectory built since the refoundation. The survival of the association now depends on the neighborhood response before the 21st.
