The teachers' protest day started early in the morning with road closures in several points of the plain and the Pyrenees, in a mobilization that had the collaboration of farmers and that had one of its main actions on the A 2 at the height of Alcarràs.
Shortly after 7:30, about 150 people cut off the A 2 in Alcarràs. The action started first in one direction of traffic and then expanded to both. The blockade was maintained until around 10:00.
Once the protest on the highway was lifted, the participants moved towards the urban center of Lleida. During the route, they gathered in front of the PSC headquarters and also in front of the building of the territorial services of Education. The itinerary ended in Ricard Viñes, which was the starting point of the demonstration.
Cuts also in the Pyrenees and in central Catalonia
The mobilization extended to other points of the road network. There were also cuts on the N 260 in La Seu d"Urgell, on the N 230 in Es Bòrdes and on the C 55 in Clariana de Cardener.
In La Seu d"Urgell, about fifty teachers started at 8:10 AM a slow march from the city entrance, in front of the Lleteries industrial estate. The protest advanced to the Castellciutat roundabout, on the N 260, and lasted for more than an hour and a half.
During this action, the Mossos d"Esquadra gave alternative passage to vehicles every 15 minutes. The retentions, according to the data provided, did not exceed one kilometer in length in any case.
The claims of the mountain regions
The teachers from the mountain regions focused part of their complaints on the situation of the centers in these areas. They denounced lack of staff, difficulties to cover substitutions, and problems in the provisions of specialist teachers.
They also pointed out that the lack of housing in the Pyrenean regions influences the problems in finding substitutes. To that they added the situation of displacements between centers that form a Rural School Zone, by assuring that there is no clear guarantee of payment.
Among the criticisms expressed during the day, the teaching staff also pointed to the administrative burden that the centers in these territories assume and maintained that the bureaucratic overload is especially serious in this type of schools.
