The National Police have arrested two men, aged 34 and 60, in Palafrugell and Corçà for possession of child pornography, in an investigation that began after receiving alerts about constant downloads of sexual material involving minors during 2025.
The Palafrugell case represents the most serious aspect of the operation. The officers not only place the suspect in possession of downloading and viewing this material, but also with payments made to attempt to have sexual relations with a minor from the American continent, although that encounter never took place.
A court ordered searches in Palafrugell and Corçà after confirming the alerts
The investigation began when the National Police received information forwarded by an association collaborating with Google. That alert pointed to repeated downloads of sexual files involving minors and led the officers to verify the data before requesting judicial measures.
With that confirmation, a court authorized the search of the homes of the two suspects, one in Palafrugell and the other in Corçà. The operation concluded with the arrest of both men for possession of child pornography.
During the raids, officers seized computer equipment and other devices that are now being analyzed by the National Police Analysis Unit. That forensic examination has so far confirmed that the arrested individual in Corçà possessed a smaller quantity of files.
The detainee in Palafrugell paid to contact a minor and attempted to create images with AI
During the search conducted in Palafrugell, the National Police detected that the detainee was subscribed to streaming platforms where he viewed pedophilic content, sometimes live. Investigators also attribute payments to him for attempting to have sexual relations with a minor from America, although the meeting did not materialize.
Furthermore, officers found files of illegal sexual content involving minors, including infants, in his devices, a description that the National Police itself provides when detailing the seized material.
Along with that content, the investigation also places the suspect in attempts to generate images of minors using artificial intelligence applications. The program activated a preventive block upon detecting that it was not authorized for such use.
The National Police reminds that downloading or storing this material constitutes a crime classified in the Penal Code. The penalty provided can reach up to one year in prison and fines for these types of conduct.
The agents add that, if a download of this material occurs involuntarily or by mistake, there is an obligation to report it to the authorities. The forensic analysis of the equipment seized in Palafrugell and Corçà remains in the hands of the Analysis Unit, which has already determined that the investigated person from Corçà stored fewer files than the one arrested in Palafrugell.
