The Department of Territory will allocate between 5 and 8 million euros to improve the safety of the Gi-531 as it passes through the Vall del Llémena, in Gironès. The plan foresees more signage, speed bumps, pedestrian crossings in urban sections, visibility improvements at specific points, and passable shoulders in some sections of the road.

The action comes with a paradox that remains open in the area. The road will maintain its current width, as requested by residents, but at the same time, the demand to limit the passage of sixteen-meter trailers persists because in several points two vehicles cannot pass each other and traffic becomes particularly complicated during school hours.

The asphalt will not be widened. The decision responds to the request made by the residents of the Vall del Llémena, who had rejected an intervention that would alter the current configuration of the road.

The announcement was presented in Sant Martí de Llémena at a meeting with Manel Nadal, Secretary of Mobility and Infrastructure, Antoni Conejero, Head of the Territorial Service of Roads of Girona, and a technician from SOCOTEL. A proposal was presented there that residents consider satisfactory regarding safety improvements.

The planned investment will move within a wide range, as Territory estimates a cost of between 5 and 8 million euros to carry out all the actions on this road in Gironès.

Restriction on trucks remains pending despite the January agreement and the February resolution

The platform "Per una carretera segura" (For a safe road) and the residents of the area maintain another demand. They ask to prohibit the passage of sixteen-meter trailers and to restrict truck traffic during school hours due to the crossing difficulties presented by the Gi-531 at several points.

In January, the Mancomunitat de municipis de la Vall de Llémena reached an agreement with two companies from Sant Aniol de Finestres to set this limitation. A month later, the Parliament of Catalonia approved a resolution that includes the same measure.

Although the construction proposal has reduced some of the tension, the restriction on heavy traffic still requires concrete details. The Territorial Services of Transit of Girona are defining the details of the implementation with the companies so that the limitation can come into effect.

Among the planned improvements are new pedestrian crossings in urban areas and increased visibility at specific points, in addition to reinforced signage, speed bumps, and passable ditches on some sections of the Gi-531.
