The Girona demarcation has registered four fatal victims in traffic accidents during the first four months of the year. The Servei Català de Trànsit confirms that this figure represents two fewer deaths than in the same period of the previous year.
The accidents have been distributed among three regions. La Selva concentrates two of the deaths, while Gironès and Garrotxa register one each. This evolution contrasts with the global balance of Catalonia, where road mortality has decreased significantly.
A head-on collision on the N-260 causes the latest death
The most recent accident occurred on Friday, April 10, in the afternoon. A head-on collision between a car and a truck took place on the N-260 highway, near Maià de Montcal. The driver of the private vehicle, a 54-year-old woman from Castellfollit de la Roca, suffered extremely serious injuries.
Emergency services evacuated her by helicopter to the Doctor Josep Trueta University Hospital of Girona. She died a few hours after admission. The driver of the truck involved in the collision suffered minor injuries and did not require prolonged hospitalization.
Another of the mournful episodes in the province took place on the C-25. Two people lost their lives in March after a rear-end collision between two trucks that caused one of the trailers to catch fire. This event raised the number of victims on the Eix Transversal within the Girona territory.
Catalonia reduces fatal accidents by 38 percent
In the country as a whole, 33 people have died in 32 fatal accidents on the interurban road network between January 1 and April 30. This figure represents 20 fewer victims than in the same period of 2025. The percentage reduction reaches approximately 38 percent.
The seriously injured have also decreased. The number has gone from 220 last year to 209 in the current year, which implies a decrease of 5 percent. Of the 33 deaths throughout Catalonia, 22 belonged to vulnerable groups: 14 were motorcyclists, 5 pedestrians, and 3 cyclists.
"Increase risk perception" - Servei Català de Trànsit, road safety management body
By demarcations, Barcelona accumulates 14 deaths, followed by Tarragona with 11. Lleida and Girona close the list with 4 deaths each. The C-25, AP-7, and N-340 roads concentrate three fatal victims each, while the C-26 and A-2 register two each.
The autonomous body insists on the need to increase prudence at the wheel. The call is specifically directed at motorcyclists, pedestrians, and cyclists to exercise extreme caution. Likewise, it requests respectful behavior from other users towards these more exposed groups.
