The garbage collection and street cleaning services in Girona recover normality starting tonight. The City Council has confirmed the end of the labor conflict after the ratification of the pre-agreement by the staff.

The assembly of workers of the concessionaire company, organized under the Girona+Neta platform, has validated the pact with broad backing. 82% of the 169 participating employees voted in favor of the proposal, versus a single vote against and another blank vote. This decision calls off the strike that has partially paralyzed the city for two days.

The agreement guarantees a salary increase of 11% until 2028

The agreed text sets an immediate salary increase of 1% for this fiscal year. During the four years of the agreement's validity, which extends until 2028, workers' remuneration will be adjusted annually according to the salary increase established for public officials. This clause ensures a cumulative global increase of 11%, the cost of which will be fully borne by the city council.

In addition to remuneration improvements, the agreement includes specific supplements. An annual increase of 400 euros is established for the life insurance policy and a rise of 35 euros in retirement bonuses. The parties have also set a six-month period to negotiate the new service schedules and shifts, a point that had generated tension during the mobilizations.

"The negotiations have reached a good outcome" - Lluc Salellas, mayor of Girona

Lluc Salellas has positively valued the outcome of the dialogue tables. The mayor has highlighted that the agreement not only resolves the current labor conflict, but also opens the way to improve a service that, in his opinion, has not yet reached the excellence desired by the local administration.

The council assumes management of the effects of the paralysis

The first mayor has lamented the inconveniences caused to the neighborhood during the two days of strike. Salellas has defended the actions of the government team, assuring that the administration has gone all out to mitigate the impacts of the paralysis and to seek quick solutions to restore the provision of the service.

The return to operational routine implies the full deployment of cleaning staff in all areas of the city. The concessionaire company must incorporate all staff to their usual positions without further delay.

The effective start of the new contractual stage is subject to the formal signing of the document and compliance with the deadlines set for the review of shifts in the next six months.
