The public bicycle service Girocleta will add eight new stations in Girona and its metropolitan area, an expansion that will allow exceeding forty bases from the current 36. The launch is scheduled for the end of 2026, although the specific locations are not yet finalized.
Tendered the elements for the expansion
Transports Municipals del Gironès has put out to tender the supply of 230 feet, 230 covers and 230 plates for an amount of 110.206,80 euros. To this contract is added another for the supply of twelve station totems, with a budget of 21.054 euros.
The expansion is part of the planned deployment to strengthen the service network in Girona and its immediate surroundings. With these new infrastructures, Girocleta will grow above the threshold of forty stations, consolidating its presence in different points of the urban area.
Salt concentrates three of the future bases
Among the proposed locations, three of the new stations will be located on Avinguda dels Països Catalans in Salt. The planned points are the surroundings of the Estació Jove, one of the accesses to the Parc de la Massana and the Mercat sector.
The rest of the locations will still have to be finalized within the deployment process. The Girona City Council specifies that the locations are not definitive, as they must first be validated with the neighborhood associations.
A growth already advanced months ago
The expansion had already been pointed out at the end of last year by the Mobility councilor, Isaac Sánchez, during an intervention on GironaFM. He then indicated that it was being studied to install three or four new stations in the city. The plan now takes shape with a forecast of eight new bases distributed between Girona and its metropolitan area, with a service entry horizon at the end of 2026.
