The Mossos d"Esquadra and the Customs Surveillance Service dismantled last week a gang with epicenter in Figueres that allegedly was dedicated to the international trafficking of cocaine, hashish, and marijuana between Catalonia and the south of France.
The operation was communicated this Tuesday by both forces, which locate the network's base in the capital of l"Alt Empordà. The organization operated, always allegedly, with a stable structure and used different properties to store and move the drug before its distribution.
Network based in l'Alt Empordà
The plot used apartments, warehouses, garages, and estates as drug nurseries. That infrastructure allowed the material to be dispersed and several support points to be maintained in different localities, a usual formula in organizations that seek to hinder police action.
Among those nurseries were facilities in Salt and also in Argentona, in addition to the main nucleus settled in Figueres. The distribution of these spaces underpins the territorial dimension of a network that operated between Catalonia and the south of France.
International traffic of various substances
The investigation focused on a criminal organization dedicated to the movement of cocaine, hashish, and marijuana. The activity under investigation connected storage and logistics points in Catalan territory with the transport of drugs towards the other side of the border.
For the moment, the acting bodies have placed the focus on the dismantled structure and on its network of properties used as support. The operation represents a blow to a network that had its operations center in Figueres and that extended its activity to other Catalan municipalities with projection towards the south of France.
