The Department of Health has presented this Tuesday the new health map of Catalonia, which foresees the creation of 30 Integrated Health Areas (AIS) replacing the current 43 management areas. The implementation of this model will be progressive throughout the territoryFirst AIS in operation and changes in the Vall de CamprodonThe first area to become operational will be AIS Osona-Ripollès. Furthermore, it has been confirmed that the **Vall de Camprodon will be integrated into AIS Camprodon–Garrotxa–Gironès–Pla de l"Estany–Selva Interior**, with the Olot hospital as the reference hospital center. The Departament de Salut has specified that the residents of Vall de Camprodon may be attended by professionals from Campdevànol hospital if the primary care team decides soThe announcement has generated reactions among health officials and mayors of the area. Núria Gomis, co-director-manager of the Hospital de Campdevànol, has pointed out the existing uncertainty regarding the implementation of the new organization

"We are expectant" - Núria Gomis, Hospital de Campdevànol

Gomis has added that the new distribution will be positive if it does not imply a budgetary reduction or job losses at the hospital

"If the new distribution really does not entail a budgetary reduction for the hospital or a loss of jobs, it will be great news" - Núria Gomis

Concern about the future of Campdevànol Hospital

The mayor of Camprodon, Xavier Guitart, has recalled that for four years the Vall de Camprodon already had the Olot-Trueta hospital as a reference and that there is a natural flow of patients towards Olot and Girona

"There has always been a natural flow from the Camprodon Valley towards Olot and Girona" - Xavier Guitart, mayor of Camprodon

Guitart has underlined that the new organization must not negatively affect the Hospital de Campdevànol, considered the regional hospital of Ripollès

"Under no circumstances can it be detrimental to the Campdevànol Hospital. It is the regional hospital of Ripollès and must be kept open and with the highest possible quality" - Xavier Guitart, mayor of Camprodon

From Sant Pau de Segúries, the mayor Albert Coma has defended that proximity and specialization must be priority criteria for healthcare

"If due to proximity we have to go to Olot, we will go, and if due to specialists we have to go to Campdevànol, we will also go" - Albert Coma, mayor of Sant Pau de Segúries

Coma has insisted on the need for a functional service adapted to the real needs of the neighbors.

"What we want is a functional service, with specialists, and for proximity to be a real criterion" - Albert Coma

Guarantees and resource demands

The mayor of Campdevànol, Oriol Lázaro, has assured that the department has guaranteed the service and funding of the regional hospital and that they trust that the new map will not reduce the center's resources or healthcare capacityThe Department of Health keeps under study the request from the Sant Joan de les Abadesses City Council to join the Camprodon CAP. In mid-January, the management of Campdevànol Hospital warned that the new territorial distribution **could mean the loss of up to 80 jobs** and put the economic sustainability of the center at risk. The situation has mobilized social agents, politicians, town councils and the Consell Comarcal of Ripollès, which have promoted manifestos and motions to demand more resources for the Hospital de Campdevànol and the Primary Care Centers of the region
