70 years of history: Girona's carousels close after the retirement of the Notario Ros family

The carousels of Plaça Salvador Espriu in Girona have definitively closed after 70 years of concession, and the installation has already been dismantled. The historic business, closely linked to several generations of families in the city, closes its doors due to the retirement of the Notario Ros family, owner of the attraction.

End to a historic concession in Girona

The disappearance of the so-called cavallets puts an end to a very well-known presence at this point in Girona. Before their stage in Plaça Salvador Espriu, the carousels had been installed in the Jardí de la Infància, another space very linked to children's leisure in the city.

The decision has been made by the Notario Ros family due to retirement, without continuity to maintain the activity. With the dismantling already completed, the space is left without one of the most recognizable attractions of the area.

The difficulties of the business in the final stage

In recent times, the Girona City Council had requested a series of modifications to the installation. Among them, to hide part of the wiring and repair some steering wheels of the cars, actions proposed in the final stretch of the concession.

Pere Ros, grandson of the founder, also summarized the difficulties of the operation of the business in the last years.

The carousels have already been completely removed, thus closing a seven-decade stage in Girona. Their departure leaves behind a family business that had passed through different locations in the city and that was part of the daily landscape of Plaça Salvador Espriu.
