The snowfall that began on Tuesday and was considered over this morning has left more than half a meter of new snow in parts of Aran and the north of Pallars Sobirà, in addition to accumulations of between 20 and 40 centimeters in the northern tip of other Pyrenean regions such as Ripollès and Cerdanya.

The episode has had an uneven impact depending on the area. The Meteorological Service of Catalonia specifies that the depths have been very conditioned by the wind, a factor that has modified the distribution of snow and the final accumulations in different sectors of the mountain range.

Notable accumulations in the Pyrenees

Among the most relevant records is Certascan, in Pallars Sobirà, where 63 centimeters of new snow have accumulated in the last four days at an altitude of 2,398 meters. In Bonabé, also in Pallars Sobirà and at 1,691 meters, the snowfall has left 51 centimeters.

In the eastern Pyrenees, Núria, in Ripollès, has added 43 centimeters of new snow at 1,971 meters of altitude. In Malniu, in Cerdanya and at 2,229 meters, the new thickness reached has been 42 centimeters.

Alert for avalanches on Good Friday

Civil Protection maintains the warning given the danger of avalanches for Good Friday in many sectors of the Pyrenees and the Pre-Pyrenees, a situation that comes after several days of snowfalls and with significant accumulations at high altitudes.

"Much caution in high-mountain activities outside of the slopes and uncontrolled areas" - Civil Protection

The recommendation is especially directed at those who plan to move through high mountain terrain, in a context in which recent snow and the action of the wind continue to mark the stability of the snowpack in a good part of the Pyrenean territory.
