The Girona Municipal Police have issued **386 citations to electric scooter riders between January 5 and 18** in different neighborhoods of the city. During this period, 97 specific checks were carried out, with an average of 27 fines per day.

Santa Eugènia Concentrates the Highest Number of Checks

The police operation has been deployed in several areas. Santa Eugènia registered 22 checks, while Can Gibert and Eixample had 12 each. In Devesa-Güell, Mercadal, and Sant Narcís, 10 checks were carried out in each neighborhood. The action has focused on detecting common infractions among scooter users.

Main Infractions Detected

The most frequent sanctions have been for riding in unauthorized spaces or pedestrian zones, carrying two people on the same scooter, riding in the wrong direction, and not respecting traffic signals. Additionally, drivers have been fined for using mobile phones or wearing headphones while riding.

In 2026, the absence of a helmet has once again been penalized, after a period when it was not mandatory. The helmet was required in 2020, ceased to be so in 2022, and since this year its use is once again grounds for a penalty. Six out of ten fines were related to the offense of not wearing a helmet when it was mandatory.

Evolution of Campaigns and Complaints

Last year, 403 control campaigns were carried out, with a total of 640 complaints against scooter users. In 2025, the figure rose to 1,564 complaints. The trend reflects continued monitoring by the local police to control the use of these vehicles on public roads.
