A Local Police officer from La Jonquera has been arrested by the Mossos d'Esquadra for an alleged crime of violating a restraining order and has also been criminally charged for driving under the influence of alcohol. The arrested individual, a 54-year-old career civil servant, will be brought before a judge in the coming hours.

The operation began around five in the afternoon, when a woman called 112 to report that the man had allegedly violated a protection order in force that prohibited him from approaching the family unit in relation to the daughter. The Mossos confirmed what had happened with the victim after receiving the alert. It was then that the woman explained to the officers that the man had left by car.

Located on Europe Avenue

With that information, the Mossos d'Esquadra activated the search for the vehicle. The man was located on the avenue of Europe, although when the agents of the Figueres police station arrived at the spot, the Local Police of Llançà had already arrested him.

The municipal agents checked that he showed signs of intoxication and administered the breathalyzer test to him. The result was of criminal nature, above 0.60 mg/l of exhaled air, when the maximum allowed is 0.25 mg/l.

From that moment on, the Mossos formalized the detention for the alleged breach of the current protection order and also criminally reported him for driving drunk, after instructing the corresponding proceedings.

Internal measures in the City Council of La Jonquera

The La Jonquera City Council activated the disciplinary procedure as soon as it became aware of the facts to clarify what happened. As an immediate precautionary measure, he/she has been prohibited entry to the La Jonquera Local Police station.

Police sources emphasize that the agent will have to answer before the criminal and administrative authorities, while recalling that the principle of presumption of innocence is respected. The same sources specify that the detainee had been assigned for a few months to tasks in the City Council, outside of street operational service.

They also point out that he was not carrying a regulation weapon and was performing non-operational functions. The case remains in the hands of the judicial and police authorities, while the council keeps the internal disciplinary channel open.
