A family with two minors under five and eight years old was evicted this Thursday morning from a home on Petxina street, in El Raval, despite being part of the Mesa d'Emergència since 2022 and still awaiting the allocation of an apartment.
The eviction was carried out after several failed attempts at agreement with the owner. The contradiction is highlighted by the case's own deadlines, as the family unit had been on the emergency list for three years and, according to Anna Pérez, a member of the Docents 080 collective, was due to receive a housing alternative in a few months.
The owner rejected two municipal proposals to avoid the eviction
One of the minors is autistic, a circumstance that led several collectives to try to negotiate a solution with the property owner. The negotiation did not prosper.
In 2024, municipal services proposed an agreement for the family to pay installments until an apartment was allocated. The owner rejected that first proposal.
In February 2026, the Barcelona City Council formulated a settlement agreement so that the family could remain in the apartment by paying a agreed-upon amount. This also did not move forward, and the owner maintained their decision to proceed with legal action.
The city council maintains that they tried to reach an agreement until the last moment. In this context, the family has been linked since 2022 to both the Oficina d'habitatge and the SIPHO of Ciutat Vella.
"The owner has maintained their willingness to continue with the legal proceedings at all times and, after several postponements, the eviction took place this morning" - municipal sources
The family had been on the emergency list for three years without an assigned apartment
Anna Pérez, a member of Docents 080, pointed out that the family had already accumulated three years on the emergency list. She added that the forecast was that they were to be offered a housing alternative in a few months, but the owner did not agree to wait.
According to the same spokesperson, the refusal was aimed at dedicating the apartments to seasonal rentals. This point has been the focus of protests by the collectives that have accompanied the family in Ciutat Vella.
After the eviction, municipal services have offered emergency accommodation at the CUESB for the family unit. In addition, the City Council is considering temporary emergency accommodation or financial aid to facilitate the search for stable housing.
The immediate offer that remains activated after the eviction is that of the CUESB, while the family, with two minors aged five and eight, has been waiting for housing from the Mesa d'Emergència since 2022.
