The early heat of the long second Easter weekend filled Barcelona's beaches this Sunday, pushing dozens of families and visitors to seek relief also in the Glòries splash pad. The crowds concentrated in shaded areas, on sun loungers, and at the beach bars, with particular pressure on the coastline.
The most common sight was at Glòries, where children and adults were using the water feature improvisationally to cool off, despite it being prohibited. The scene coincided with the official water games still out of service, meaning the unapproved spot ended up absorbing a demand that the intended area does not yet cover.
The beach bars at Bogatell were full this Sunday
At Bogatell beach, the beach bars reached full capacity during Sunday. The rise in temperature and the long holiday led residents and tourists to anticipate a scene more typical of summer in one of the busiest stretches of the Barcelona coastline.
The public pressure was not limited to the sand. It also extended to the food and rest services by the sea, on a day marked by the search for shade and cold drinks during the central hours of the day.
The Glòries splash pad concentrated families around the water feature
In Glòries park, occupancy was uneven depending on the type of space. Shaded areas and the sun lounger area registered high demand, while a large part of the sunlit surfaces were much less used.
At the same time, the official water games remained non-operational, leaving the space intended for that use almost empty. Some visitors opted for the Glòries water feature, even knowing it was not permitted.
The contrast was also noticeable in the playground, which remained practically empty for much of the day. The combination of heat, lack of shade in some areas, and the absence of the water games in service shifted activity towards the cooler spots in the park.
The beach bars at Bogatell beach registered full occupancy this Sunday, while at Glòries the highest demand was concentrated in the shade, sun loungers, and the improvisationally used water feature.
