A 53-year-old man is fighting for his life in the Intensive Care Unit of the MútuaTerrassa University Hospital after suffering a serious accident with an electric scooter last Wednesday. The events occurred around 1:30 p.m. on rambla d'Ègara, right at the confluence with Volta street, a few meters from the Mercat de la Independència.
The victim was traveling south on the roadway when the front wheel of his vehicle hit a considerable-sized pothole. The impact caused a violent fall that left the user unconscious several meters ahead, according to his brother's account to Diari de Terrassa.
The asphalt gives way and causes a brutal fall
The injuries were immediate and extremely serious. The affected person suffered a pulmonary contusion, a fractured clavicle and rib, in addition to a severe cerebral hemorrhage. Eyewitnesses described a dramatic scene where the man began to convulse and lost abundant blood from his ear.
Several local police officers and a nurse who was passing through the area provided first aid before the arrival of the SEM. They placed his head to the side so he wouldn't drown in his own blood, explained the relative about the actions of the improvised rescuers.
Initially transferred to the semi-critical ward, the patient's clinical condition worsened rapidly. Doctors had to admit him to the ICU, where they are considering inducing a therapeutic coma. The medical team does not rule out urgent surgery if the internal bleeding does not stop.
An express repair questions maintenance
The victim's brother publicly denounced the condition of the asphalt on that road. He assured that the pothole had been present for a long time and reached seven centimeters in depth. As proof of administrative negligence, he pointed out that municipal workers repaired the damage the day after the accident.
"Nobody has done anything." - Victim's brother, testimony collected by Diari de Terrassa
The relative detailed that the repair was so quick that it lasted barely 42 seconds, which suggests a superficial solution that would not have corrected the underlying defect. He insisted that his brother was driving correctly and respecting all traffic rules.
The family's indignation transcends the medical aspect. The brother posed a direct question to the road authorities: Do we have to wait for a person to be on death's door to fix a pothole? He considers the situation unfair and demands accountability.
The case reopens the debate on the state of urban roads in Terrassa and the safety of personal mobility users. The victim remains admitted under strict medical surveillance while the evolution of the traumatic brain injury is evaluated.
