The Barcelona City Council will draw up management plans together with FC Barcelona to regulate the massive arrival of fans in the city on match days. The measure was promoted in the Presidency and Security Commission following the uncivil acts carried out by Newcastle supporters last March.

Political agreement to anticipate large gatherings

The proposal came from BComú and has gone ahead with the support of Junts, ERC, the PP and the municipal government of the PSC. Vox has abstained in the vote. The objective is to have a specific device to minimize the impacts on the urban environment and in the neighborhoods that bear more public pressure.

The approved approach involves designing preventive measures before the matches with high influx forecast. The council and the club must coordinate to foresee movements of fans and limit situations that may result in discomfort for the neighborhood or coexistence problems in public spaces.

Temporary restrictions and protection of the neighborhood environment

Among the planned measures is the implementation of temporary restrictions on the sale of beverages in glass or can format. Also contemplated are protected routes for residents and the protection of building entrances in areas considered sensitive, with the intention of preserving access and reducing incidents in properties and residential spaces.

The initiative focuses on the points where fans gather before and after matches, especially in areas near the stadium and on the usual access and exit routes. The aim is to manage flows and avoid scenes of chaos like those recorded in previous away trips of visiting fans.

Petitions from Les Corts to maintain mobility

In parallel, residents of Les Corts have demanded that buses be diverted along Avenida de Madrid on match days to guarantee the service. The demand seeks to avoid prolonged interruptions or alterations in an area where usual mobility is conditioned by the crowds and the cuts linked to the matches.

With this agreement, Barcelona takes a step to plan with more anticipation the days of maximum football influx and reduce the impact on the daily life of the closest neighborhoods to the blaugrana environment.
