The Mont-roig del Camp City Council has reported the destruction of two road safety figures installed over the weekend at pedestrian crossings in the municipality. The damage affects part of a set of six pieces designed by Pilarín Bayés and placed near health and school facilities.

The incident impacts an initiative designed to calm traffic and reinforce pedestrian protection in sensitive areas. Of the six figures installed with a municipal investment of 8,500 euros, two have been damaged precisely at the pedestrian crossings near the primary care centers of Miami Platja and the main town.

Two figures were damaged next to the CAPs in the municipality

The vandalism occurred at two of the intersections where the council had placed these signage elements. The city council has reported the incidents and is now considering whether to repair the affected pieces or replace them with new ones.

The initiative was part of a tactical urbanism strategy already being implemented in other municipalities in Catalonia to reduce vehicle speed. The objective is to increase the visibility of pedestrian crossings and enhance safety in areas with regular pedestrian traffic, including residents, patients, and students.

In this case, the installation focused on areas linked to basic services. The operation included six elements designed by Pilarín Bayés with an investment of 8,500 euros, of which four remain intact.

Four pieces remain intact in squares, schools, and sports facilities

The elements that have not suffered damage are distributed across various points in the municipality. In Miami Platja, they remain installed in Jaén square, in front of the CAP, and near the Marcel·lí Esquius and Joan Miró schools.

Additionally, another figure remains next to the Mare de Déu de la Roca school and the sports center, as part of the same municipal effort to enhance road safety in everyday use areas. The distribution of the pieces aimed to target spaces where vehicular traffic and pedestrian transit coincide.

Now the council is evaluating what solution to apply to the two affected statues, while the rest of the set remains in the locations where it was placed. The damage was found at the pedestrian crossings near the CAPs of Miami Platja and the main town.
