The Local Police of El Vendrell investigates the appearance of pieces of meat with needles and nails in a green area of El Francàs, after several dog owners alerted to the presence of these traps supposedly prepared to kill animals.
The baits have been located between Tomás Bretón and Enric Granados streets, in El Vendrell. According to the information provided, agents have found up to five pieces of meat with needles and nails inside them.
A green area monitored after the discovery
The Local Police has opened an investigation to clarify who placed these elements and recalls that they were prepared, according to the body itself, to injure animals, dogs and cats.
The initial warning came from dog owners in the area, who detected the presence of these pieces of meat and raised the alarm. From then on, the police have intensified attention on this point of Francàs and ask for maximum caution from those who walk with pets in the area.
An animal had to be treated urgently
As a consequence of these events, an animal had to be urgently transferred to a veterinarian. Finally, it was able to save its life.
The Local Police asks animal owners to exercise extreme caution and carefully check the areas where they walk their pets. It also asks residents to report immediately if they detect new traps or suspicious remains.
Possible criminal consequences
The Penal Code contemplates prison sentences of up to 56 months for whoever mistreats an animal causing its death or serious injuries. To this can be added the disqualification from owning animals and financial penalties.
