Two men lost their lives in a traffic accident that occurred on the night of Friday, May 8, on the N-240 highway as it passed through Montblanc. The incident took place after a head-on collision between two passenger cars traveling in opposite directions.
The Servei Català de Trànsit received the alert at 10:04 p.m. and confirmed the deaths of both drivers, who were the sole occupants of the vehicles involved in the crash. Rescue and removal efforts for the cars completely blocked the road for several hours.
The identity of the victims confirms the local impact
One of the fatal victims was identified as Àlex Camón, goalkeeper of the first team of Cambrils Club de Hoquei and resident of L'Espluga de Francolí. The athlete was 27 years old and was a key player in the competitive structure of his current club.
Camón passed away at 27 years of age while returning to his home after fulfilling his usual sporting commitments. His career included previous stints at Hoquei Club Espluga, the club where he trained before making the leap to the Cambrils team.
The second fatal victim was a 50-year-old man with administrative residency in El Pont d'Armentera, a municipality located in the Alt Camp region. Police authorities are working to clarify the exact causes that provoked the lane invasion or loss of control that resulted in the head-on collision.
Sports entities lament the loss
The Cambrils Hockey Club immediately announced the postponement of all matches scheduled for the weekend as a sign of mourning. The club's management used its official channels to convey a message of condolence addressed to the player's family and teammates.

For its part, Hoquei Club Espluga conveyed its condolences to the family and closest friends. The entity recalled Camón's formative years in its ranks and expressed its consternation at the premature death of one of its outstanding players.
The Forest Defense Association of L'Espluga de Francolí also issued a statement showing its sadness. Camón collaborated as a volunteer with this organization, actively participating in the prevention and surveillance tasks of the natural environment of his town.
The N-240 remained closed to traffic until 01:15 AM. During Saturday morning, traffic was still partially restricted in the area of kilometer 36.4, near the junction with the C-14 towards Tàrrega, to allow for the development of judicial proceedings.
With this double death, the total number of deaths on Catalan roads rises to 38 people so far this year. Of that total, 13 victims correspond to accidents that occurred within the province of Tarragona.
