The Mossos d"Esquadra arrested in the early hours between Sunday and Monday on the AP 7, at the height of El Vendrell, two men aged 26 and 30 as alleged perpetrators of several crimes linked to the theft of goods from trucks. Two other occupants of the same car managed to escape and are still in search and capture.

The intervention took place on the Tarragona stretch of the highway and began in the El Mèdol service area, where a patrol detected a high-end vehicle loitering around the truck parking area. The officers verified that its occupants had made cuts in the tarpaulins of several trailers to inspect the merchandise.

Flight at high speed on the AP 7

When they noticed the police presence, the driver undertook the flight at high speed in a southerly direction. The pursuit continued afterwards in a northerly direction, in a sequence of risky maneuvers that forced to extreme caution on the road.

During the escape, the car made zigzags and sudden changes of direction. It also came to graze other vehicles and collide with a truck. Finally, a traffic jam on the highway caused the fugitives' vehicle to end up in a rear-end accident against another truck.

Intercepted in El Vendrell

The Mossos managed to intercept the passenger car at the height of El Vendrell. At that moment, the four men ran away on foot along the highway carriageway. The officers arrested the driver and another occupant, who also tried to assault the police officers during the action.

The other two involved managed to escape despite the search device deployed in the area and remain pending localization.

Stolen vehicle and tools for robbing trucks

The subsequent investigation allowed to confirm that the car used in the escape had been stolen on Sunday in Lloret de Mar. Inside the vehicle, the agents located tools habitually used in robberies with force against trucks.

The two arrested accumulate close to thirty police records. They are attributed crimes of robbery, theft of vehicle use, assault and resistance to agents of authority. In the case of the driver, an accusation for reckless driving is also added while efforts continue to identify and detain the other two men who were traveling in the car.
