The Department of Youth of Reus has launched the action "Que no t'escalfin el cap" (Don't let them mess with your head), a participatory artistic installation created by third-year ESO students from the EPI Jove project to raise awareness about school bullying, discrimination, and mental health. The proposal was presented on Wednesday the 20th in Plaça del Mercadal.
The initiative places adolescents themselves at the center of the message and, at the same time, serves to give visibility to a free municipal resource for psychological and emotional support. The installation brings this service to everyday spaces for the youth of Reus, from the street to schools and youth centers.
Students turned a hair salon into a space to listen to testimonies
The installation, developed with the artistic collective Instantropia, recreates a hair salon with three hair dryers equipped with headphones. Those who approach can listen to testimonies recorded by young people in the rehearsal rooms of Casal de Joves La Palma.
The objective of the project is to raise awareness about situations of school bullying, different forms of discrimination, and mental health problems. The action stems from the work of third-year ESO students linked to the EPI Jove project.
Daniel Marcos, Councilor for Youth, has defended the value of the proposal by highlighting the active role of young people in social transformation. He has also linked youth participation with the creation of spaces for reflection and positive coexistence in Reus.
The installation will visit six centers and will close on June 3rd at El Carrilet
After its premiere in Plaça del Mercadal, the installation will visit the Gabriel Ferrater i Soler, Salvador Vilaseca, Baix Camp, and Roseta Mauri institutes in the coming weeks. It will also reach the Institut Escola Pi del Burgar and Col·legi Sant Josep.
In addition to the tour of educational centers, the action will have two stops open to the general public at youth facilities in the city. On May 26th, it can be visited at Casal de Joves La Palma, and on May 27th, at the Youth Information Point of the Pere Anguera Library.
The project also gives visibility to the Emotional Health Service of Casal de Joves La Palma, a free municipal resource for psychological and emotional support for young people.
The program will culminate on June 3rd with an open activity on Avinguda del Carrilet.
