The Mossos d'Esquadra have arrested two men, aged 21 and 20, for their alleged involvement in several robberies with violence and intimidation against elderly people in the Campclar and Torreforta neighborhoods of Tarragona during the month of May.
The arrests come after a series of assaults with a similar pattern on elderly victims, whom the suspects would surprise to snatch jewelry from their necks with a strong tug. In one of the cases, the two acted together.
The 20-year-old detainee was linked to three robberies in Campclar and Torreforta
The 20-year-old suspect was arrested on Monday around 8:30 AM by the Urban Crime Group, after remaining hidden over the weekend. He is currently awaiting judicial proceedings.
Investigators attribute three robberies committed alone to him. The first occurred on May 1st on Riu Algars street in Campclar, the second on May 20th on Riu Besòs street in the same neighborhood, and the third on May 26th in García Lorca square in Torreforta.
This detainee has five prior police records. The sequence of events places the attacks in two of the most populated neighborhoods in western Tarragona and concentrates the robberies within less than a month.
The 21-year-old arrested was located on Riu Llobregat street
A day later, on Tuesday around 7:00 PM, the Mossos d'Esquadra arrested the other suspect on Riu Llobregat street. In his case, the arrest is related to a snatch-and-grab robbery committed on May 22nd on Priorat street in Torreforta.
In that assault, the man allegedly stole a gold earring and a pendant from an elderly woman. The arrested individual, aged 21, has three prior police records.
The investigation remains open to clarify whether both detainees participated in other robberies of a similar nature. The 20-year-old man has five prior police records and is still awaiting judicial proceedings.
