The Tedax of the Mossos d'Esquadra activated the security protocol in the Parliament this Wednesday after detecting a suspicious package addressed to the CUP. The agents went to the institutional building after the control services alerted about the arrival of the shipment.

The envelope lacked a sender and caught the scanners' attention due to its internal content. The image revealed the presence of an apparent electronic circuit next to several magnets. This combination immediately triggered the security alarms.

The package contained pamphlets and a seized book

The specialists proceeded to open the package with the usual precautions. The inspection confirmed that there was no explosive risk. Inside they found a book modified to include the previously detected circuit.

Along with the volume, various propaganda pamphlets from security alarm companies appeared. The Catalan police verified that the elements did not constitute a real threat to the physical integrity of the people present.

"We saw it, for example, this weekend in Cerdanyola and Ripollet with pepper spray, just as we saw it with the running over of minors in Granollers amidst racist shouts" - CUP, political party

The political formation explained that the book included a note written in Catalan. The text contained racist and homophobic messages attributed to the far-right. The CUP issued a statement to denounce the situation and contextualize the fact.

The CUP links the event with recent attacks

The party warned about the consequences of the rise of the far-right. It stressed how its violent expression directly impacts the street. The statement related this incident to other episodes that occurred in previous days.

They mentioned the throwing of Molotov cocktails against a youth center in Vallirana. They also cited the multiple threats received by the Casals and Ateneus of the Països Catalans. These data serve as a framework for the public complaint made by the formation.
