The Tarragona Provincial Council has launched works to reinforce safety on the T 314 road, between Cambrils and Reus, a road that tops the danger index of the Catalan road network. The action focuses in a first phase on the renewal of horizontal and vertical signage and on the implementation of new speed and traffic limitations.

Among the planned measures is the reduction of the maximum speed to 70 km/h on the entire road and the prohibition of overtaking. In addition, in two urban sections, the limit will become 30 km/h. The containment barrier will also be extended at those points where it is deemed necessary.

A road with high intensity of traffic

The T 314, known as the Parc Samà road, registers the highest danger index and ranks first in the Catalonia ranking. More than 6,500 vehicles circulate on this road every day, a volume of traffic that is taken into account in the risk assessment along with the annual average of serious accidents accumulated on the road.

That analysis coincides with a study by the RACC presented at the end of last year, which endorses the classification of the T 314 as the road with the highest danger in the Catalan network. The report crosses the average intensity of vehicles that pass through this route with the serious accident rate recorded in a sustained manner.

Planned actions in the medium and long term

Beyond the measures already initiated, the planning contemplates new interventions to try to reduce the risk in this road corridor of Baix Camp. Among them is the installation of a speed reducer at kilometer point 4+450, the improvement of lighting, and the construction of a new roundabout to facilitate access to surrounding roads.

With this package of actions, the provincial administration seeks to correct the conditions of a very busy road that connects two key municipalities of the region and that for a long time has dragged one of the worst accident statistics in the country.
