The Supreme Court has confirmed the sentence of five and a half years in prison for two men responsible for a serious assault in Tarragona. The sentence also includes a restraining order and five years of supervised release, after the TSJCat dismissed the appeal filed by the defendants.
The events took place in the early morning of April 25, 2023, in a restaurant located on the N-240 highway. Three individuals crossed paths with a couple while playing billiards in the establishment, which led to a violent confrontation.
"At least four people got out of the defendants' vehicle to attack the man on the establishment's terrace"
The victim received nine stab wounds to the chest and blows all over the body during the assault. The injured man tried to hinder the escape by placing his own vehicle between the roadway and the aggressor group, but he could not avoid being attacked.
He was urgently transferred to the Joan XXIII Hospital, where he was admitted to the ICU with suspected hemorrhagic shock. He presented seven penetrating wounds approximately three centimeters in diameter in the chest area, requiring immediate surgical intervention.
"The injuries took 24 days to heal and the injured person was admitted to the hospital for four days"
Two of those involved have been definitively convicted, while one was acquitted in the judicial process. The convicted had deposited 7,372 euros before the trial to cover the compensation, although the High Court rejected applying the mitigating circumstance of reparation of damages alleged by the defense.
