Catalunya faces this Monday, May 18, a day with changing weather, with showers in the early morning in the central coastal and pre-coastal sector and more extensive rainfall from midday in the northern third and the eastern half. The forecast also includes rain in mountainous areas and the possibility of some showers in the Port massif.
The forecast combines a moderate rise in the minimum temperature with a drop in the maximum in the eastern half, while the rain episode will be concentrated precisely in that part of the territory. In the northeast, moreover, accumulations could be locally abundant, although scarce or not very abundant amounts are expected in Catalunya as a whole.
Showers may be accompanied by thunderstorms and hail
During the early morning, the rain will arrive irregularly in the central coastal and pre-coastal sector, with the possibility of extending to other areas of Catalunya. From midday onwards, instability will gain ground in the northern third and the eastern half.
In these regions, the rain will be of weak to moderate intensity, although it may be locally heavy. It may also be accompanied by thunderstorms and hail.
The Servei Meteorològic de Catalunya places the snow line around 2,000 meters. In parallel, it does not rule out precipitation in the Port massif during the second half of the day.
The tramontana will leave strong gusts on the Costa Brava until mid-morning
Visibility will be good in general, but will worsen in elevated areas of the eastern half and the northern third, in addition to reducing during showers. This loss of visibility will coincide with the areas where most of the instability will be concentrated.
In the early morning and at the end of the day, the wind will blow light and variable, with intervals of land breeze on the coast. During the rest of the day, south and east winds will dominate in the eastern half and on the coast, while in the rest of the Principat, the west component will prevail with weak to moderate intensity.
Until mid-morning, the Costa Brava will continue to be affected by the tramontana, which will blow with light to moderate intensity and leave strong gusts.
As for temperatures, the minimum will rise moderately, the maximum will drop in the eastern half, will increase slightly in Ponent and les Terres de l'Ebre, and will remain without significant changes in the rest of the territory.
