The bathing season will start in June 2026 on the beaches of the Costa Daurada with new accessibility measures, smoke-free zones, systems to control crowds, and equipment designed for heatwaves. The changes will affect municipalities such as Salou, Cambrils, Altafulla, Vila-seca, Torredembarra, Roda de Berà, Mont-roig del Camp, and Vandellòs i l'Hospitalet de l'Infant.

The rollout comes after a diagnosis by the Chair of Tourist Innovation and Research Salou-Costa Daurada of the Universitat Rovira i Virgili on 55 beaches and 23 coves in 13 municipalities detected basic deficiencies in accessibility. 52.7% of these spaces lacked ramps, 38.2% lacked adapted toilets, and only 27.3% offered accessible showers.

Cambrils and Salou expand assisted bathing and access

Cambrils will set up a bathing area for the elderly and people with reduced mobility on Llosa beach. The area will have a platform, seating, shade, a railing, and a lifeline.

In addition, the municipality will place these same facilities on Ardiaca beach. With this, it strengthens two points on the coastline with specific equipment for users with mobility difficulties.

In Salou, the assisted bathing tent on Llevant beach will be extended to nine meters. The city council will also renovate the access walkways to increase width and strength on one of the busiest beaches in the municipality.

Torredembarra will add a shower for users of the assisted bathing service, while Roda de Berà will install railings, an adapted flexi-walkway, foot showers, and a new built-in adapted toilet on Llarga beach.

Altafulla, Mont-roig, and l'Hospitalet incorporate showers, codes, and pergolas

Altafulla will install an adapted shower and a 1.80-meter walkway on its beach. To this improvement, it will add a regulatory change to turn the current recommendation not to smoke in mid-summer into a prohibition.

Mont-roig del Camp will place signage with NaviLens codes on its coves to facilitate orientation for blind people using a mobile application. In Miami Platja, the municipality will also renovate the Cristall beach water park with a flamingo theme and update the picnic area at Penyals cove.

L'Hospitalet de l'Infant will distribute adapted foot showers on Arenal, Punta del Riu, and Almadrava beaches. It will also deploy a lifeline at Punta del Riu, update the amphibious chairs, and install a pergola at the same location.

Altafulla will complete the campaign with a sun lounger area in front of the Club Marítim. In parallel, Miami Platja will open the Club de Mar with a new concessionaire.

La Pineda and Capellans add capacity control, video surveillance, and new uses

Vila-seca will delimit the first bathing area for dogs in the municipality on La Pineda beach, at the height of Joaquim Serra street. On that same coastline, it will install a tourist information screen and reuse a sensor from the Pessebre de Sorra to control visitor numbers.

La Pineda will also activate technological columns with public address systems and video surveillance on the urban promenade. The start of the campaign coincides with the incorporation of control tools and services that go beyond bathing.

Salou will expand smoke-free zones by incorporating half of Capellans beach. This area will be added to the two existing areas in Llevant and the one operating in Ponent.

The Llevant beach park in Salou will adopt a dolphin theme, while Altafulla's ordinance foresees the smoking ban coming into effect in mid-summer.
