The refining sector will paralyze its activity on May 27 throughout the state territory. The call seeks to pressure for the early retirement of workers in the sector.

The STR union has called for 20,000 workers from the main refineries to join the strike. The mobilization extends to ten operational industrial complexes distributed throughout Spanish geography.

Two refineries in Tarragona join the strike

The province of Tarragona concentrates a significant part of the national production capacity. Two of the facilities affected by the strike are located in this industrial territory. One belongs to Repsol and the other is owned by Asesa.

These operational centers are key to the supply of fuels in the Mediterranean area. The interruption of their activities could alter the usual distribution logistics.

"It is a historic claim" - STR Union

The union organization maintains that this demand has been on the table for years without a satisfactory resolution. They consider that current working conditions justify earlier access to retirement.

Alert on supply in a tense context

The protest coincides with a period of high demand for fuels. Energy markets are going through a phase of tension due to the war conflict in the Middle East. This international situation increases sensitivity to any productive interruption.

The STR union warns that the strike may have a direct impact on fuel supply. They point out that the refining sector is essential to guarantee domestic supply.

In addition to the Catalan complexes, the call includes strategic centers in Cartagena. The facilities in Bilbao and Castelló will also support the labor pressure measure.
