The coast of Tarragona will add new public devices this summer to speed up water rescues in several municipalities. Salou, Cambrils, and Torredembarra have announced the installation of SOS buttons, rescue boards, and support material for police forces on beaches and coves with high attendance.

The novelty is that part of this equipment will be within reach of any bather before the arrival of emergency services. While the town councils maintain usual surveillance, the incorporation of these systems seeks to reduce response times in a type of incident where first aid is decisive.

Salou will install eight SOS buttons on its main coves

Salou will install eight SOS buttons distributed among its main coves to directly contact emergency services. The system will allow an immediate alert to be sent from the coast itself in case of an accident or difficulty in the water.

The measure is part of the deployment of public devices to aid in aquatic rescue planned for the Tarragona coast. On the same coastline, Cambrils and Torredembarra will also incorporate new rescue elements on specific beaches.

Cambrils and Torredembarra will distribute seven rescue boards on their beaches

In Cambrils, the town council will place three life-saving boards on posts located on the beaches of Regueral, Ardiaca, and Cap de Sant Pere. These teams will provide a flotation device at already identified points along the waterfront.

Torredembarra will install four rescue boards, one for each beach in the municipality. These devices will be located next to the SOS buzzers that are already in operation.

In addition, the Local Police of Torredembarra will equip all its vehicles with self-inflatable buoys to facilitate emergency water rescues. This material helps maintain the buoyancy of both the officer and the victim during the intervention.

The system is already in operation with the local police of Vilanova i la Geltrú, which has incorporated it as support in aquatic rescue operations. In the case of Torredembarra, all police vehicles will carry self-inflatable buoys to intervene in rescues from different points in the municipality.
